Professionals working at universities or in companies who are responsible for evaluating Invention Disclosures and according working steps
Workshop Goals
This workshop will address the following questions and topics :
- What is an invention, examples, stories, invention vs discovery, basic elements of patentability
- Typical disclosure forms, examples of disclosures
- Key criteria which are essential in evaluating an invention and how to proceed, relations with inventors
- How to acquire further useful information, how to make best use of the Thomson Innovation database
- Exchange experiences and good practices among participants and moderators

Moderators
Gabriel Clerc heads the technology transfer office of EPFL. He is co-founder and former president of swiTT.
Before joining EPFL in 1988, Gabriel trained as mechanical engineer of EPFL and was active in industrial R&D (Sulzer) and thereafter in the field of flight testing (Swiss gvnmt).
Natalia Giovannini is technology transfer officer at EPFL. She is member of the board of swiTT.
Natalia has a molecular biology background and has participated in various research programs between 1994 and 2002 in the fields of transcription regulation, biology of the development and metabolism. Natalia is active in licensing EPFL technologies since 2002 and Vice President of swiTT since 2008.
Timo Kandler, Regional Account Manager EMEA, Thomson Reuters, a world wide active company specialised in various disciplins of information research, information management and information distribution. Thomson Reuters also supplies the database services that are exclusively offered to the swiTT community.
Before joining Thomson Reuters, Timo worked in the Automotive field (BMW) and in engineering (INMATEC)
