Annual Conference 2012
In a time of increased pressure in many industries to innovate while R&D budgets are frozen or even reduced, companies are looking at R&D models to interact more with their environment. This approach is generally called ‚Open Innovation (OI). Among the different unidirectional models (outside-in or inside-out) collaborative innovation processes or joint technology projects are of particular interest to the academic institutions. To establish such collaborative projects, a number of contractual issues have to be discussed to protect the partners interests, e.g. rights on background IP, ownership of foreground IP, exclusivity, funding models, commercialization rights.
As different industries have variing environments regarding OI in terms of IP situation, standards, market mechanisms, value chains we have invited speakers from four different sectors to highlight their projects, models and boundary conditions.
